The European Parliament re-elected Ursula von der Leyen as President of the EU Commission for the 2024-2029 mandate

With 401 in favour, 284 against, 54 abstentions, 7 void votes, today the European Parliament has newly elected Ursula von der Leyen as President of the EU Commission for the 2024-2029 mandate.
During her speech in today’s plenary session, President von der Leyen laid our her political guidelines for the next Commission (2024-2029).

Below are some highlights that will impact our industry sector:
- New Chemicals Industry Package: aiming to simplify REACH and provide clarity on “forever chemicals”, or PFAS.
- New Circular Economy Act: helping to create market demand for secondary materials and a Single Market for waste, notably in relation to critical raw materials.
- Green Deal implementation: focus on implementing the existing Green Deal legal framework for 2030
- New Clean Industrial Deal for competitive industries
