Air Fresheners

An important part of product stewardship for the industry is providing users with information on how to use products so that they get the best performance from them and understand how to use them safely.

Air fresheners can include non-combustible air fresheners e.g. sprays – including aerosols, mini and pump-sprays, liquid wicks, gels, potpourris, electrical devices and car fresheners, as well as perfumed and non-perfumed candles.

A.I.S.E.’s member companies that manufacture air fresheners prioritise the safe use of the product. This commitment is implemented through an industry wide voluntary initiative by that aims at promoting best practices which go beyond the legal requirements for manufacturers. A.I.S.E.’s Product Stewardship Programme (PSP) for Air Fresheners has been in place since 2007, and includes major European manufacturers of this product category.

The industry commits to manufacture air fresheners responsibly and to communicate to consumers in a clear and transparent way how to use them safely. In this way, consumers are able to make an informed choice when buying and using air fresheners.

Today, an audit indicates that more than 439 million air freshener products manufactured or placed on the market in Europe are compliant with the A.I.S.E. programme.
