Detergent Test Protocol

A.I.S.E. has developed testing guidelines for assessing the performance of laundry detergents across Europe in a consistent and robust way.  These common guidelines ensure a more realistic and reliable comparison of the quality of products for consumers, and a common approach to testing across the industry.

The guidelines provide a minimum requirement methodology for assessing the performance of laundry detergents (heavy duty and light duty) and laundry additives, companies are of course free to exceed these.

Laundry Detergent Testing Guidelines

The protocols cover a number of metrics including stain sets, dye transfer inhibition and whiteness maintenance. They have been developed by experts from companies manufacturing such products, following a thorough review of existing test protocols used in Europe and of existing internal company data.

The guidelines are made available to manufacturers, consumer organisations, testing institutes and other interested parties and are reviewed on a regular basis. The history of the revisions of the protocol provides more details of the stains and stain classes.
