New peer-reviewed publication on risk analysis of microbial cleaners

14-02-2025

The use of microbial-based cleaning products (MBCPs) corresponds to a growing trend in the detergence industry, leveraging the potential of biotechnology to innovate for sustainable and performing products. These innovative products rely on the presence of microorganisms in their composition to deliver efficient cleaning properties. Microorganisms used in detergents harness natural processes to break down dirt. They can be highly efficient, often requiring only small amounts in the microbial cleaner to deliver their benefits, both in terms of performance and sustainability.

A.I.S.E. is pleased to announce the publication of a new guidance document on microbial-based cleaning products. Created in collaboration with the American Cleaning Institute (ACI), this peer-reviewed article summarises the existing and commonly used approaches to ensure safety of these products by performing a risk analysis linked to microbial ingredients in MBCPs.  This document is intended to provide information to MBCPs manufacturers to help them carry out their risk assessment for MBCPs.

Furthermore, the detergents industry has developed two detailed case studies which apply these guidelines to specific cases: MBCPs used in sprays and MBCPs intended for food contact surfaces.
