The European Commission has published new guidance on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), including Frequently Asked Questions.
Why does this matter for A.I.S.E. members?
The guidance provides much‑needed legal clarity for economic operators as they prepare for PPWR implementation.
However, several key sustainability requirements — some applicable as early as August 2026 — remain legally unclear, complex to implement, and risk creating significant administrative and financial burdens.
As PPWR secondary legislation is developed, a strong simplification mindset will be essential to support EU competitiveness and resilience, ensure ease of implementation, and minimise unnecessary burdens for economic operators.
