A.I.S.E. remains concerned about ethanol’s future on the EU market

14-02-2025

After sending a letter to Commission president Ursula von der Leyen last November about the potential reclassification of ethanol under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR), A.I.S.E. remains extremely concerned about the future of ethanol on the EU market.

In the recent Chemical Watch article “ECHA biocides committee to decide on ethanol approval in second half of 2025”, A.I.S.E. emphasised that the proposed classification of ethanol as a CMR (Carcinogenic, Mutagenic and/or toxic to Reproduction) would have catastrophic consequences on infection control in hospitals, as it would prevent its use.

Society is at risk of losing access to the crucial ingredient that could help us survive another pandemic like Covid-19.
