The European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing (EPAA) is a unique voluntary collaboration between the European Commission, European trade associations (including A.I.S.E.), and companies from eight different industry sectors.
Its vision is the replacement, reduction, and refinement (the “3Rs”) of animal use to meet regulatory requirements through better and more predictive science. EPAA strives for scientific integrity, transparency, and construction collaboration and A.I.S.E. has been a partner since its establishment in 2005.
The partners are pooling knowledge and resources to accelerate the development, validation and acceptance of alternative approaches at national, European and global levels.
The EPAA seeks to bridge the knowledge gap and to facilitate coordination and cooperation via its partners and project platform.
It promotes the results via its various European and international activities and events, its annual conference and via its awards and grants that are particularly addressed to young scientists.
The shift towards animal testing-free chemicals regulation was also the focus of an EPAA-sponsored EURACTIV opinion piece authored by Dr Ofelia Bercaru, Director for Prioritisation and Integration, ECA that was published to coincide with HCF 2024.
